The right of children to free and compulsory education rules (Tripura), 2011


Eligibility

The Tripura government has issued several notifications, circulars and memos on eligibility:

Applicable to both aided and unaided private schools

Both aided and unaided private schools need to reserve at least twenty five percent of the strength of each class as free seats for weaker section and disadvantaged groups.

Admission at the pre-school level or entry level, as applicable

Where a school imparts pre-school education, admission of atleast twenty five percent of children belonging to weaker section and disadvantaged group in the neighbourhood, shall also apply to pre-school education.

Identification of children of weaker section and disadvantaged group

Disadvantaged Section

    • Below Poverty Line (BPL) families of

      • Scheduled Caste (S.C.)

      • Schedule Tribe (S.T.)

      • Other Backward Caste (O.B.C.)

      • Religious Minority communities

Weaker Section

    • Children of families belonging to BPL category only


Selection of applications

In case the number of applicants are more than the total seats available in a particular class, the school authority shall have the authority to select by lottery.
